More than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins are now accessible through Anthropic’s latest release, a figure that underscores the company’s aggressive push into the crowded market of AI productivity tools. The new application, named Claude Duet, is designed specifically for professionals and small businesses rather than the general consumer. By leveraging its extensive integration network, the company aims to carve out a distinct niche in a sector where new assistants are launching with weekly frequency.
The AI landscape has shifted rapidly over the past year, moving beyond simple chatbots toward autonomous agents that can execute tasks on a user's behalf. While early iterations of these tools focused on personal assistance, the current competitive environment is heavily tilted toward business applications. Anthropic is entering this fray to compete directly with established players like Meta’s Muse, OpenAI’s Dots, and several emerging startups including Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.
Anthropic is making a clear strategic distinction between Duet and personal lifestyle agents. The company explicitly notes that Duet is not optimized for handling errands, such as booking tickets, nor does it provide a live visual feed of its browser activity. Instead, the tool is engineered to manage complex professional workflows, allowing users to focus on higher-level decision-making while the agent handles the operational details.
At the core of Duet’s functionality is its ability to build daily briefings and create data-driven dashboards. The system suggests specific actions based on the user’s existing data, acting as a proactive manager rather than a passive responder. Like other advanced agents, Duet operates within its own virtual machine, allowing it to complete tasks in the background. It only interrupts the user when a specific decision or approval is required, ensuring minimal disruption to the workday.
The application is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, providing the computational foundation for its autonomous capabilities. This architecture allows Duet to navigate the Claude Marketplace, where it can access its vast library of integrations. These connections enable the agent to interact with a wide array of professional software, effectively bridging the gap between disparate business tools.
Financial transactions are a significant part of Duet’s feature set, as it can make online purchases on behalf of the user. This is facilitated through integrations with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, the company has set clear boundaries on financial authority; Duet will not trade securities or transfer money between bank accounts, and any sensitive payment steps require explicit user approval before execution.
Security remains a priority in the design of Duet. Anthropic has introduced a new classifier that scans each message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is programmed to decline requests that involve handling credit card numbers or government identification, adding an extra layer of privacy protection for business users.
Currently, Claude Duet is available in a research preview. It can be accessed via iOS and Android apps, as well as through the web interface at Claude.ai. Access is restricted to Pro and Max subscribers, who must join a waitlist to test the platform. As the market continues to evolve, this release signals Anthropic’s commitment to dominating the professional automation space.
